MPD Investigating Alleged Kidnapping Attempt at Planet Ground this afternoon.

Update 4-8-22-

In reference to the attempted kidnapping at North East Park the Meridian Police Department took the claim seriously and acted quickly. After speaking with all parties involved and reviewing the city camera footage it was determined that the attempted kidnapping did not occur and was a misunderstanding between the mother and the other individual there.

MPD would like to thank the community assistance in getting information needed for this incident.

I've spoken to the person who owns the truck and he assured me this was a misunderstanding. He is speaking with police to get the matter straightened out.

Meridian Police department is investigating an alleged kidnapping that happened at Planet Playground on Hwy 39 north this afternoon around 1 pm. A mother reported to MPD this afternoon that a white male between 40- to 50 years with brown hair and beard tried to grab her four year old daughter. The man identified himself to the mother as maintenance worker.

He was driving a dark colored ford truck with EP on the back. I will update as soon as I get pictures of the truck from MPD. The little girl is safe and unharmed.

The Meridian Police Department responded to Northeast Park at around 1pm in reference to a attempted child abduction. The parent told officers a White male, about six feet tall, brown hair, brown beard with gray in it attempted to take their child. The suspect left in a black/dark colored truck with "XP" badge/decal on the rear of rear fenders.

If you know who this vehicle belongs to or any information in reference to this no matter how small contact the Meridian Police Department 601-485-1893 or Crimestoppers 855-485-8477.
